Storing and Handling

Refrigeration and Freezing

Upon delivery, chestnuts should be refrigerated or frozen until processed and cooked. Refrigerated chestnuts will keep for months, and frozen chestnuts can keep for more than a year. For even better longevity, frozen chestnuts should be kept in airtight packaging.

Other Storage Methods

Chestnuts can also be turned into flour (check back soon for chestnut flour), pureed, dehydrated, made into liquor or beer, or even stored in sand for eating or cultivating your own trees. Click this link for a good summary of chestnut storage techniques or feel free to contact us.
